Urinetown: 8th-12th grade and 2019 grads

This summer we will be producing Urinetown.  It is audition only, meaning you must audition to be cast and we will select those we feel will be the best fit for the production.  Auditions will be June 20 and 21 (see details below) and rehearsals begin June 24.  If you will be out of town during auditions, please contact us in advance, so we can arrange another audition time for you.

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, Urinetown catapults the "comedic romp" into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter. (from MTIShows.com)

Auditions:  Auditions will be on Thursday, June 20 at 4:00 pm or 6:00 pm at ArtWorks Academy.  You will sign up to audition during one of those times.   Those auditioning should prepare one song from a musical, which reflects the style of the show. It should be 16-32 bars in length.  We will not have an accompanist for this audition, so students will need to bring recorded accompaniment.  They should also come prepared for a dance audition.  The dance will be taught to them at auditions.  Again, if you want to audition, but know you will be out of town that week, please let us know in advance and we will schedule a different time for you to audition.  You can call (405) 397-1824 or email Katie Morris, Director of Music, at katie@artworksacademy.com.  If you don't hear back within 24 hours, please try again, as we will be very busy the two other shows and we don't want to miss your email or call.

As stated above, you will need to select a time and sign up to audition.  If you are planning to also audition for Musical Theatre Company, please sign up for both auditions.  You will use the same song to audition for both and do not need to audition twice, but we need to know who is auditioning for each.  So, if you plan to audition at 4:00 pm, for instance, please register for the MTC audition and Urinetown audition that are scheduled for 4:00 pm (if you plan to audition for both).

Click on the link below and log in to your account or create an account if you are new.  Once you have done that you will see a link to a page that says, "2019 Summer One Day Classes and Auditions." Click on that and scroll through the calendar to find June 20.  You might need to click on 'more' within the calendar if not all four audition options are showing up.

Those who audition for Urinetown may be called back to read and sing for specific roles.  Callbacks will be in the evening on June 21.  You will be notified by email on Friday, June 21 if you are called back.

Rehearsals:  Students will rehearse from 6:00-8:30 pm on Mondays and Thursdays from June 24 through August 8.  We might occasionally have additional rehearsals, if necessary.  We will have rehearsals every night the week of August 5.

Performances:  The performances will be August 9-11, 2019.  Performances will be at Randall University, formerly Hillsdale College in Moore.

Cost: Tuition is $250. Students enrolling in two or more camps or classes will receive a 10% discount off of each camp or class. Families will receive a sibling discount of 10% for each additional family member enrolled.
